BASF Launches Liberty Ultra Glufosinate Herbicide in Australia

25 April 2026, Australia: BASF has launched Liberty ULTRA, a new glufosinate herbicide for the Australian market. The company said the product is designed to improve weed control, crop safety and operational efficiency for growers using post-emergent herbicide programs.

According to BASF, Liberty ULTRA is based on its new GLU-L technology, which uses the L-isomer of glufosinate. The company said this improves herbicide efficacy, while its Liberty Lock formulation is designed to improve droplet adhesion and spread for more even spray coverage.

Parvana Wali, Head of Agricultural Solutions at BASF, said the new formulation enables weed control at lower use rates, reducing handling, storage and transport requirements for growers.

The company stated that Liberty ULTRA was tested in the United States and selected for Australian cropping conditions. BASF said trials showed up to three times greater uptake of the active ingredient through the leaf surface compared with generic alternatives.

Liberty ULTRA is also registered for use in InVigor LibertyLink canola from the cotyledon stage, allowing earlier application timing in newly emerging crops. BASF added that the herbicide has a one-day plant-back interval to cereals, oilseeds and pulses, allowing use in pre-plant knockdown programs.

The product has been registered by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority and is now available through BASF distributors across Australia.
