UPL Fascinate BR Herbicide – Ammonium Glufosinate for Glyphosate-Resistant Weed Management in Soybean, Corn and Cotton

22 May 2026, New Delhi: Fascinate BR is a non-selective, contact herbicide manufactured by UPL do Brasil. The active ingredient is ammonium glufosinate, classified under HRAC Group H (glutamine synthetase inhibitors). It is registered for use in soybean, corn, cotton and beans.

Active Ingredient and Mode of Action

Ammonium glufosinate inhibits the enzyme glutamine synthetase in plant cells. This causes an accumulation of ammonia and disrupts amino acid metabolism, leading to cell death. The product acts primarily by contact with green plant tissue; translocation within the plant is limited compared to systemic herbicides.

Because glufosinate acts on a different biochemical site than glyphosate (HRAC Group 9), it does not share cross-resistance with glyphosate-resistant weed biotypes. This makes it relevant in rotation programs for fields where glyphosate resistance has been confirmed.

Registered Uses

  • Soybean, Corn, Cotton – pre-planting desiccation
  • Soybean, Beans – pre-harvest desiccation
  • Cotton, Corn – burndown of emerged weeds before crop emergence

Target Weed Species

  • Horseweed / buva (Conyza bonariensis, Conyza canadensis) – including glyphosate-resistant biotypes
  • Sourgrass / capim-amargoso (Digitaria insularis) – including glyphosate-resistant biotypes
  • Other broadleaf and grass species in early vegetative stages

Application Notes

  • Apply by ground or aerial spraying using flat fan nozzles
  • Rainfall or irrigation within 6 hours of application may reduce efficacy
  • Incompatible with strongly alkaline products and iron-containing compounds; apply alone
  • Do not apply under wind conditions that could cause spray drift
  • Wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) as specified on the label

Resistance Management Considerations

HRAC Brazil recommends rotating herbicide modes of action across seasons to delay resistance development. Fascinate BR (Group H) can be used in rotation with Group 9 (glyphosate), Group 4 (synthetic auxins), Group 2 (ALS inhibitors) and others, depending on the weed spectrum and crop system. Herbicide rotation should be part of a broader integrated weed management (IWM) plan.
