UPL Seed Treatment Products in Brazil – Insecticide and Fungicide Options for Soybean, Corn, Cotton and Pasture

22 May 2026, New Delhi: Seed treatment involves applying crop protection products directly to seeds before sowing. It is a method used to protect germinating seeds and young seedlings from soil-borne pathogens and soil-dwelling insects during the early establishment phase of a crop. UPL do Brasil holds registrations for seed treatment products in the insecticide and biological fungicide categories.

Registered Seed Treatment Products

Start – Fipronil (Insecticide, IRAC Group 2B)

[uam_ad id="80259"]

Start is registered for seed treatment in soybean, corn and pasture. It controls termites, burrowing bug (Scaptocoris castanea) and other soil insects. Available for industrial and on-farm treatment. See separate product profile for full details.

Biological Fungicide – Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (FRAC Group BM02)

UPL holds registration for a Bacillus amyloliquefaciens-based biological fungicide for seed treatment. The product protects against seed-borne and soil-borne fungal pathogens, including Fusarium spp. and Rhizoctonia solani. The active organism produces antifungal compounds that suppress pathogen growth in the seed zone.

Application Methods

Industrial Treatment

Products are applied to seeds at commercial seed processing facilities using automated slurry treaters that deliver precise, uniform coverage. This method is common for large-volume, high-value seed lots.

On-Farm Treatment

Products are applied by the producer at the farm level using drum treaters, continuous-flow machines or manual slurry application. On-farm treatment requires careful calibration to ensure accurate dosing and uniform coverage. Treated seeds should be sown promptly.

Combination Treatments

In practice, seed treatments often combine an insecticide, a fungicide, and an inoculant (for legumes). When combining products, compatibility should be verified per label guidance. The recommended application sequence is generally: fungicide first, insecticide second, inoculant last. Mixing incompatible products or applying in the wrong order can reduce the viability of biological components.

Crops Covered
