Mahindra OJA Tractor Range Targets India’s Growing Horticulture Mechanisation Market

21 August 2026, Mumbai: Mahindra Tractors has completed three years of its OJA compact tractor platform in India, penetrating the compact lightweight four-wheel-drive tractors in horticulture and other specialised farming applications. The segment has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments of the Indian tractor market.

India’s tractor market crossed the 1 million-unit mark in FY2025-26, with industry sales growing 24% year-on-year. The 21–30 HP segment, commonly referred to as the compact tractor segment, grew even faster at 45%. The tractor industry is now looking to sustain this growth by developing products that more precisely address the diverse mechanisation needs of farmers.

Against this backdrop, Mahindra Tractors has positioned the OJA platform for high-value agriculture and specialised farming applications. The OJA range currently includes multiple models in the 21–30 hp category where manoeuvrability, implement compatibility and power are important.

The opportunity is also being supported by the expansion of India’s horticulture sector. Horticulture production in the country is estimated to reach more than 450 million tonnes by FY2030-31, up from around 378 million tonnes in FY2025-26. The increase in production is expected to create greater demand for crop-specific mechanisation, particularly in operations where conventional tractors can be difficult to deploy.

The OJA tractors comes with four-wheel drive as standard feature and are designed for applications in vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and row-crop cultivation, where conventional tractor configurations may not always be suited to narrow rows and restricted operating spaces.

Harsh Rai, CEO, Mahindra Tractors said, “At Mahindra, we believe the future of farming lies in specialised, technology-led solutions that help farmers improve productivity and profitability. As India’s rapidly growing horticulture and specialised farming segments continue to evolve, the need for purpose-built mechanisation is becoming increasingly important.”

Parikshit Ghosh, Head, Marketing & National Business Operations, Mahindra Tractors said, “The OJA has established itself as a preferred choice among farmers engaged in horticulture, vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and other specialised farming applications. The range is now available across multiple models, with options at different power points. With OJA, we remain focused on delivering application-specific solutions that help farmers operate more efficiently.”

The OJA platform was jointly developed by engineering teams at Mahindra Research Valley in India and Mitsubishi Mahindra Agricultural Machinery in Japan.
