Strautmann Expands Magnon Forage Wagon Range for UK
06 September 2026, London: German machinery manufacturer Strautmann has added four new models to its Magnon forage wagon range for the UK market, offering growers and contractors both a more compact option and a heavier-duty, higher-output alternative, according to reports carried by Farmers Weekly on September 1 and picked up by Farmers Guardian on September 4.
At the smaller end, the new 32 cubic metre Magnon 8-330 and 9-330 models are half a metre shorter and hold four cubic metres less than the nearest models in the existing range. Despite the smaller frame, Strautmann says the wagons can haul up to 60 cubic metres of grass at medium packing density, thanks in part to a moveable bulkhead design that frees up an additional five cubic metres of usable capacity as the load builds.
At the heavier end of the range, the new 38 cubic metre Magnon 10-390 and 11-390 models, badged Exact-Cut, are aimed at operations wanting higher throughput and a finer chop. These carry up to 72 cubic metres at medium compression and come with a hydraulic drive to the crop intake as standard, rather than a mechanical drive. They also feature a wider 2.25 metre Flex-Load pick-up as standard, support for large-format 800/45 R30.5 radial tyres, and an optional hydraulic suspension system fitted with gas-filled accumulators to improve ride quality and reduce ground damage on wetter fields.
Shared features across the range
Across the range, the Flex-Load pick-up uses six rows of flexible plastic tines, designed so an individual tine can be replaced in under a minute if damaged, reducing downtime during the grass silage season. Buyers can also specify the Exact-Cut option, which uses an ultra-dense knife bank to chop forage into pieces around 22 millimetres long, compared with the 35 millimetre chop length of the standard configuration. Standard pick-up width across the smaller models remains 2.12 metres, using either steel tines as standard or the optional plastic-tined Flex-Load system.
Strautmann has not published UK pricing or confirmed dealer availability dates for the new models, though the range extension positions the company to compete more directly across both ends of the forage wagon market, from smaller livestock farms wanting a manageable, lower-capacity machine to larger dairy units and contractors prioritising output and chop quality.
Why forage wagons matter
Forage wagons remain a mainstay of grass-based livestock and dairy systems across the UK and northern Europe, where they offer an alternative to trailer-and-loader forage harvesting systems, combining cutting, loading, transport and unloading in a single machine. The addition of finer models at both ends of the Magnon range reflects a broader trend among European machinery manufacturers toward greater specification flexibility, allowing buyers to match machine size and features more closely to farm scale and forage handling needs, rather than choosing from a narrower set of fixed configurations.
The move also reflects cost pressure across European farming. With input costs elevated and labour harder to source, machines that combine several jobs, cutting, loading, transporting and unloading forage, into one pass are increasingly valued for the time and manpower they save at busy points in the season, even where the upfront purchase price is higher than simpler equipment.
