Lorena Basso Elected President of International Seed Federation
22 May 2026, Lisbon: Lorena Basso has been elected President of the International Seed Federation during the World Seed Congress 2026 held in Lisbon, Portugal, becoming the first woman to lead the organization in its 102-year history.
Basso, who leads Argentina-based Basso Semillas, brings more than two decades of experience in the seed industry and has actively contributed to ISF’s strategic initiatives as a Board member. Her election marks a significant milestone for women in the global seed sector and for Latin America’s representation in international agricultural leadership.
In her address following the election, Basso emphasized the importance of innovation, farmer access to quality seed, climate resilience, and collaboration across the global seed value chain. She also acknowledged the contributions of women working across research, production, associations, and agribusiness leadership roles worldwide.
