The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is India’s apex development financial institution for agriculture and rural development, established under the NABARD Act, 1981. It supports rural economic development through refinance, infrastructure financing, institutional development, credit planning, financial inclusion, and development programmes involving farmers, banks, cooperatives, Regional Rural Banks, state governments, and rural enterprises.
NABARD plays a major role in financing rural infrastructure and agricultural development through programmes such as the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), Micro Irrigation Fund (MIF), Long Term Irrigation Fund (LTIF), Food Processing Fund, and Warehouse Infrastructure Fund. Its initiatives also support agricultural marketing, food processing, storage, irrigation, farm mechanisation, horticulture, livestock, fisheries, and allied rural activities.
Climate and sustainability are increasingly important areas of NABARD’s work. Its initiatives include the NABARD Carbon Fund, which supports carbon-mitigation projects and voluntary carbon-market development, as well as financing and capacity-building programmes linked to climate-resilient agriculture. NABARD’s district-level planning also covers priorities such as integrated farming systems, micro-irrigation, farm mechanisation, soil health, seed production, organic farming, food processing, and digital agriculture.
This category features NABARD news, agricultural finance, rural credit, government schemes, RIDF, micro-irrigation, farm mechanisation, FPOs, rural infrastructure, food processing, warehouse financing, climate finance, carbon markets, financial inclusion, farmer development, and India’s rural economy.
