Ten Years Of Organic Farm Knowledge: Practical Resources For Organic Farming Across Europe

29 October 2026, Europe: Since 2016, the Organic Farm Knowledge platform, managed by FiBL together with IFOAM Organics Europe and the International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems ICROFS, has brought practical knowledge and tools for organic farming to farmers, advisors, researchers, educators and students across Europe. Today, it offers more than 1,000 tools free of charge, in 19 interface languages, and attracts around 120,000 visitors per year, making knowledge for organic farming easier to find, use and share. To mark its tenth anniversary, Organic Farm Knowledge will be inviting users to share their experiences.

Research produces valuable knowledge for organic farming, but finding information that can be applied on a farm is not always easy. Established in 2016 through a European research project focused on organic arable farming, the platform was created to address a clear problem: practical information was scattered across websites and difficult to find. Ten years later, making that knowledge accessible remains its central purpose. It builds on Organic Eprints, the international open-access repository for research and knowledge on organic food and farming.

Practical answers to farming questions

The platform’s toolbox allows users to search by topic, language, resource type and keywords. Its resources cover subjects ranging from crop and livestock production to horticulture, organic policies, advisory work and training. The toolbox passed 1.000 tools in 2025 and continues to make the latest practical innovations in organic agriculture available to farmers, advisors and enthusiasts across Europe.

The most visited resources in 2025 illustrate the range of questions users bring to the platform. They included an agroforestry planning tool, the AgriAdapt tool for exploring climate risks and adaptation options, and a ration-planning tool with guidance on fully organic feeding for poultry and pigs.

Organic Farm Knowledge attracts around 120,000 visitors annually, over 10,000 per month. Its multilingual interface helps users explore resources across borders. Portuguese, Romanian and Finnish were recently added through collaboration with the European research project OrganicClimateNET, bringing the number of interface languages to 19.

The organic advisory service directory was further developed within the OrganicTargets4EU, OrganicClimateNET and the OrganicAdviceNetwork projects and now features an interactive advisory service map. This helps users more easily browse and discover organic advisory services across 20 European countries.

Collaboration at the core

Organic Farm Knowledge is jointly managed by FiBL in Switzerland, IFOAM Organics Europe and the International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems (ICROFS) in Denmark.
Its development has received support from projects funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe research programmes, and from the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation.

An editorial board of organisations across Europe and 15 collaborating project partners support the platform by contributing resources and helping them reach wider audiences.
