Scheduled PRIA 5 Fee Adjustment Takes Effect for Pesticide Registration Applications

11 October 2026, US: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today reminded stakeholders that, in accordance with the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act of 2022 (PRIA 5), a 5% inflation adjustment increase in pesticide registration service fees will apply to covered applications starting October 1, 2026. This adjustment ensures the continued modernization of the pesticide registration process and supports the agency’s commitment to robust, science-based evaluations.

The 5% fee increase represents a statutory adjustment authorized by Congress contingent upon EPA’s implementation of process improvement recommendations contained in the Process Assessment Report  that was required by PRIA 5. EPA has begun or completed 80% of the recommendations in the report.

This statutory fee update allows EPA to maintain the resources necessary to review pesticide applications efficiently, ensuring human health and the environment are protected. The additional funding generated by these registration service fees will directly support our ongoing efforts to improve decision review timeframes, enhance tracking systems, and ensure that safe, innovative tools are available to consumers and agricultural workers alike.

Fee amounts are set by Congress and are owed regardless of the outcome of EPA’s review. They do not influence EPA’s scientific findings or regulatory decisions. The funding supports EPA’s scientific review of pesticide risks to human health, including risks to children and agricultural workers, and to the environment. It also supports timely, predictable decisions and statutory set-asides for farmworker protection, pesticide safety training, and partnership grants.

Key details regarding the fee adjustment include:

  • Applicability: The 5% increase applies across all PRIA registration service fee categories for covered applications received during FY 2027.
  • Exclusions: This adjustment applies exclusively to registration service fees and does not alter the annual maintenance fee caps or standard per-product maintenance fee structures.
  • Fee Tables: The fully updated fee schedules, category interpretations, and decision review timelines are available directly on the official EPA PRIA Fee Tables webpage.

Applicants and registrants are encouraged to review the updated fee schedules prior to submission to ensure accurate payment processing and prevent administrative delays
