Syngenta Canada Introduces Incipio Foliar Insecticide for Potatoes and Specialty Crops

10 October 2026, Canada: Syngenta Canada Inc. has introduced Incipio® foliar insecticide, featuring PLINAZOLIN® technology, for potatoes and specialty crops in Canada. The product contains a novel active ingredient developed by Syngenta with a Group 30 mode of action for controlling a range of insect pests.

Incipio is registered for use on potatoes, apples, brassica head and stem vegetables, brassica leafy greens, cucurbit vegetables, leafy vegetables excluding head lettuce, fruiting vegetables, tuberous and corm vegetables, and pome and stone fruits.

According to Syngenta Canada, the formulation provides residual activity on leaf surfaces, UV stability and rainfastness within two hours. The insecticide is designed to stop target pests from feeding within hours and provide control for up to 14 days in specialty crops.

Cheryl Trueman, Syngenta’s insecticide and fungicide technical lead for potatoes and specialty crops, said the product offers growers another option for managing pests across multiple crops and supporting insecticide resistance management programmes.

Incipio for Potato Production

In potatoes, Incipio targets Colorado potato beetle, potato leafhoppers and European corn borer. The company reports that the insecticide can deliver visible results against Colorado potato beetle within two days.

Its Group 30 mode of action provides an additional option for resistance management, including in pest populations that have developed resistance to insecticides with other modes of action. Syngenta states that Incipio can be used in rotation with insecticides from different groups that control the same pests, including Actara® 240SC and Minecto® Pro.

The product also has no rotational restrictions with key crops such as wheat, corn and most vegetables, according to the company.

Applications in Specialty Crops

In brassica crops, Incipio controls flea beetles, diamondback moth, imported cabbageworm and cabbage looper. In apples, it provides mite control across multiple life stages, including eggs.

The insecticide is also registered for use in cucurbits and other listed specialty crops. Syngenta says the product has no known cross-resistance with other modes of action, making it a potential rotation partner in insecticide resistance management programmes.

Availability for 2027 Growing Season

Incipio will be available for the 2027 growing season in a suspension concentrate (SC) formulation. It will be sold in cases containing four 0.81-litre containers, with application rates varying by crop and target pest.

One case is expected to treat 80 acres for Colorado potato beetle control in potatoes, 53 acres for European corn borer control in potatoes, 53 acres in apples and 80 acres in brassica crops.

The introduction adds a new Group 30 insecticide option to Syngenta Canada’s crop protection portfolio for potato and specialty crop production.
