UPL Biosolutions in Brazil – Biological Fungicides, Biostimulants and the Pronutiva Integrated Plant Health Program
22 May 2026, New Delhi: UPL do Brasil markets a range of biological and biostimulant products alongside its conventional chemical crop protection portfolio. These products are grouped under the Pronutiva platform, which integrates chemical and biological inputs within a single crop management approach. The biological products are registered with MAPA under specific categories including biological pesticides and plant biostimulants.
The Pronutiva Platform
Pronutiva is UPL’s framework for combining chemical crop protection products with biological inputs in the same crop cycle. The approach is based on timing each product type to the crop stage where it has the most agronomic relevance, rather than replacing one with the other. Chemical fungicides, for example, may be used at disease-critical stages while biostimulants are applied at crop development stages where plant stress tolerance is a priority.
Biological Fungicides
Bacillus amyloliquefaciens-based product (isolate CBMAI 1301)
UPL do Brasil holds registration for a biological fungicide based on Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, a naturally occurring soil bacterium that produces antifungal compounds. The product is registered for seed treatment and acts against fungal pathogens that infect seeds and seedlings. The classification is FRAC Group BM02 (microbial disrupter of fungal cell membranes / cell wall synthesis). This group carries a low resistance risk as the mode of action involves multiple antimicrobial compounds produced by the bacterium.
Biostimulants for Pasture
UPL markets a range of biostimulant products for pasture under its Pronutiva portfolio:
- Foltron – foliar product containing plant extracts and folcysteine; indicated to help mitigate abiotic stress in pasture grasses
- Raizal – product containing nutrient complexes and hormone precursors; indicated to support root development during pasture establishment and recovery
- Nitrozal – fertilizer formulation for pasture formation and recovery; not a pesticide registration
Biostimulants for Field Crops
For large-scale crops such as soybean and corn, UPL markets organomineral products containing fulvic acids and other complexing agents intended to support nutrient uptake. These products are registered as fertilizers or biostimulants under applicable Brazilian legislation, not as pesticides.
Regulatory Framework
In Brazil, biological pesticides and biostimulants are regulated under different frameworks. Biological pesticides require registration with MAPA under Law 7.802/1989 and relevant normative instructions. Biostimulants are currently regulated under MAPA’s normative instruction for fertilizers and soil conditioners. Buyers should confirm the regulatory category of each product before use.
