Latest Grains Research Hits The Road As Growers Help Shape Future Investment
08 July 2026, AU: Grain growers across Queensland and New South Wales will have the opportunity to hear the latest research insights and connect with leading researchers and agronomists when the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) hosts a series of Grains Research Updates this month.
The events will be held in Bell, Wallumbilla and Nindigully in Queensland from 14-16 July, followed by Hillston, Barmedman and Manildra in New South Wales from 28-30 July and North Star, Breeza and Gilgandra from 11-12 August.
National Grower Network (NGN) Forums will be held alongside the Wallumbilla, Nindigully and Hillston Updates, providing growers with a direct opportunity to identify local challenges and influence future GRDC investments.
GRDC Senior Regional Manager – North, Rebecca Raymond, said the July/August Update series would deliver practical, regionally relevant research while ensuring growers remained at the centre of GRDC’s investment decisions.
“These Updates are designed to give growers access to the latest research and innovations that can support profitable decision-making on farm right now,” Ms Raymond said.
“Just as importantly, the NGN Forums provide a direct pathway for growers to highlight emerging issues and opportunities in their region, helping GRDC ensure future investments continue to address the priorities that matter most to growers.”
The programs will cover a broad range of topics relevant to northern grain-growing systems, including:
- Nitrogen management and fertiliser efficiency
- Weed and herbicide management
- Soil constraints, variability and amelioration
- Disease and fungicide resistance
- Precision agriculture and data-driven decision-making
- Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies
- Crop and livestock system performance
- Grain and fertiliser storage
- Machinery and infrastructure investment decisions
- Pulses, canola, pigeon peas and milling oats
Ms Raymond said the Grains Research Updates offer a valuable opportunity for growers to hear directly from researchers and fellow growers about the latest findings, practical experiences and emerging opportunities.
“These events bring together the science, local knowledge and on-farm experience that help growers make more informed decisions,” she said.
“Whether growers are interested in improving nitrogen use efficiency, managing soil variability, tackling weed and disease challenges or exploring new technologies, there will be practical insights and real-world examples relevant to their farming systems.”
“We encourage growers to come along, hear the latest research, connect with others in their region and contribute to the conversations that help shape future GRDC investments.”
