Progress of Area Coverage under Summer Crops as on 22.05.2026
26 May 2026, New Delhi: India’s summer crop sowing for 2026 has shown an overall increase compared to the corresponding period last year, with the total sown area reaching 86.02 lakh hectares against 83.50 lakh hectares in 2025, marking a rise of 2.52 lakh hectares. Among major crops, pulses recorded positive growth led by blackgram, while Shree Anna cum coarse cereals and oilseeds also witnessed notable expansion, especially maize and groundnut cultivation. Rice acreage, however, declined slightly compared to last year. The data reflects continued farmer interest in diversified cropping patterns and increased cultivation of pulses, millets, and oilseed crops during the ongoing summer season.
