Southwest Monsoon 2026 Likely to Advance Further Over Southern India in Next 3-4 Days: IMD

20 May 2026, New Delhi: The southwest monsoon is expected to advance further over parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and adjoining southern regions during the next three to four days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather agency said favourable conditions are developing for the gradual progression of the monsoon even as severe heatwave conditions continue across several parts of north and central India.

IMD said widespread rainfall activity is likely to increase over southern and northeastern parts of the country in the coming days, signalling the strengthening of pre-monsoon conditions ahead of the main monsoon season.
