Company Snapshots

1. UPL

UPL leads the pack by a wide margin, with a market capitalisation of nearly Rs. 48,000 crore. It remains India’s largest agrochemical company by scale and global reach, with operations spanning crop protection, seeds, and specialty chemicals across more than 130 countries. The quarter shows a net loss, though the sharp positive swing in profit variance and double-digit sales growth point to an improving trend against a weaker year-ago base.

2. PI Industries

PI Industries holds the second spot, valued at close to Rs. 38,000 crore. The company has built its reputation on custom synthesis and manufacturing (CSM) for global innovators alongside its own domestic agri-inputs business, including indigenously discovered molecules such as Pioxaniliprole. Despite the strong market cap, the quarter reflects a notable dip in both profit and sales, a reminder that valuation and near-term earnings performance don’t always move in lockstep.

3. Sumitomo Chemical India

Sumitomo Chemical India commands a premium valuation, reflected in its high P/E of nearly 48. The company continues to benefit from its parentage and a diversified portfolio spanning insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and environmental health products, with steady, if modest, quarterly growth.

4. Bayer CropScience

Bayer CropScience stands out for its healthy return on capital employed (ROCE of over 29%) and the highest dividend yield on this list at 3.69%. The company’s seeds and crop protection portfolio, backed by global R&D, continues to deliver consistent double-digit profit growth even as quarterly sales dipped slightly.

5. Sharda Cropchem

Sharda Cropchem’s business model, built around global registrations and sourcing of generic agrochemicals rather than heavy domestic manufacturing, gives it the lowest P/E among the top companies, suggesting the market is valuing it more conservatively relative to earnings. The company posted a decline in quarterly profit despite growth in sales.

6. Dhanuka Agritech

Dhanuka Agritech, a long-established name in India’s branded pesticide and formulation space, saw both profit and sales contract during the quarter. Its ROCE of nearly 24% still reflects a capital-efficient business model built on in-licensing and distribution partnerships with global innovators.

7. Rallis India

Rallis India, part of the Tata Group, delivered one of the stronger quarters on this list, with profit growth of 30% and steady sales growth. The company has been investing in its seeds and specialty chemicals businesses alongside its core crop protection portfolio.

8. NACL Industries

NACL Industries carries the highest P/E on the list by far, at over 157, alongside strong quarterly profit growth. The elevated valuation multiple relative to current earnings suggests the market may be pricing in future growth expectations rather than trailing performance, even as quarterly sales declined.

9. Bhagiradha Chemicals

Bhagiradha Chemicals posted the sharpest swing in quarterly profit growth on this list, up nearly 235%, alongside strong sales growth of over 57%. Its high P/E and comparatively low ROCE indicate a smaller, earlier-stage company where the market is pricing in a growth story still playing out.

10. GSP Crop Science

Rounding out the list, GSP Crop Science posted modest but positive growth in both profit and sales, with a respectable ROCE of nearly 19%, reflecting a smaller but efficiently run agrochemical business.
