UPL Galil SC Insecticide – Imidacloprid + Beta-Cypermethrin for Systemic and Contact Pest Control in Soybean, Corn and Wheat

22 May 2026, New Delhi: Galil SC is an insecticide from UPL do Brasil formulated as a suspension concentrate (SC) combining two active ingredients from different IRAC groups: imidacloprid (neonicotinoid, Group 4A) and beta-cypermethrin (pyrethroid, Group 3A). The product is registered for foliar application in soybean, corn and wheat.

Active Ingredients and Modes of Action

Imidacloprid – IRAC Group 4A

[uam_ad id="80259"]

Imidacloprid acts as an agonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the insect nervous system, causing continuous nerve stimulation and leading to paralysis and death. Unlike acetylcholine, imidacloprid is not broken down by acetylcholinesterase, so the effect persists. Imidacloprid is absorbed by plant tissue following foliar application (limited systemic movement) providing some residual protection.

Beta-Cypermethrin – IRAC Group 3A

Beta-cypermethrin acts on voltage-gated sodium channels, causing nerve membrane depolarization and rapid paralysis on contact. It provides a fast-acting knockdown effect that complements the action of imidacloprid.

Registered Crops and Target Pests

  • Soybean – aphids (Aphis glycines), whitefly, thrips, early-instar caterpillars
  • Corn – corn aphid (Rhopalosiphum maidis), leafhoppers, thrips, stink bugs
  • Wheat – wheat aphid (Schizaphis graminum, Sitobion avenae), thrips

Application Guidelines

  • Apply via tractor-mounted ground sprayer
  • Use medium to coarse droplet nozzles to minimize spray drift
  • Follow label-specified dose rates and water volumes per crop
  • Observe pre-harvest intervals listed on the label

Resistance Management

The combination of Group 3A and Group 4A in a single product should not be interpreted as a resistance management strategy in itself. Both groups carry resistance risk in Brazilian pest populations. IRAC-BR recommends rotating the combination with products from unrelated mode-of-action groups (e.g., Groups 1A/1B, 5, 6, 28) and using within an IPM program that includes economic threshold-based decision making.
