Celebrating One-year Anniversary Of The JECFA Toolbox for Veterinary Drug Residues Risk Assessment
23 March 2026, Rome: As the 28th session of the Codex Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods (CCRVDF28) approaches, the FAO JECFA Toolbox for Veterinary Drug Residues Risk Assessment marks its first anniversary. This resource can support the work of CCRVDF and the global network of stakeholders interested in the area of residues of veterinary drugs. Join us in celebrating the first milestone of this online tool!
Structured into six sections with practical tips, real-world case studies and links to further reading, the Toolbox provides a stepwise overview of the JECFA risk assessment process for veterinary drug residues in animal-derived foods, detailing essential data requirements and and key concepts. It also explains how these assessments inform the derivation of maximum residue limits (MRLs), which JECFA recommends to CCRVDF to safeguard public health and promote international fair trade.
The JECFA Toolbox is tailored for a wide audience, including potential JECFA experts, national and regional regulatory authorities responsible for veterinary drug approval or food quality standards, the pharmaceutical sector, and those involved in animal farming or veterinary associations. Codex Members and CCRVDF stakeholders are encouraged to explore the JECFA Toolbox, available in three languages, to enhance their engagement, strengthen food safety systems and contribute to harmonized residue standards worldwide.
