India to Host 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting in Indore on June 12–13
08 June 2026, Indore: India is set to host the 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on June 12–13, 2026, bringing together agriculture ministers, senior officials, and experts from BRICS member and partner countries to discuss food security, sustainable agriculture, innovation, and climate resilience.
The high-level meeting is being organized under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026 and is expected to strengthen agricultural cooperation among participating nations while advancing dialogue on building resilient and sustainable food systems.
Ahead of the ministerial gathering, deputy representatives from BRICS countries are meeting in Indore from June 9–11 to deliberate on key agricultural challenges and opportunities facing the global community. The discussions will help shape the agenda and outcomes of the ministers’ meeting.
As part of the preparations, delegates from countries including Brazil, South Africa, Ethiopia, and other BRICS partners visited Indore on June 8. Hosted by the Indore Smart City Project and the Indore Municipal Corporation, the delegation experienced the city’s renowned cleanliness, urban infrastructure, and cultural heritage.
The upcoming ministerial meeting will focus on enhancing cooperation across agricultural value chains, expanding market opportunities, promoting innovation and technology adoption, strengthening climate-resilient farming systems, improving soil health, and encouraging sustainable resource management practices.
Special attention will be given to empowering smallholder farmers, women, and youth, recognizing their critical role in achieving food security and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Delegates are also expected to discuss regenerative agriculture, knowledge sharing, and strategies for strengthening rural livelihoods.
During India’s BRICS Chairship, the Agriculture Working Group has already completed four rounds of discussions covering food security, sustainable agriculture, innovation, climate adaptation, and resilient food systems. Technical dialogues have also been conducted on reducing food loss and waste, fisheries and aquaculture development, and advanced livestock technologies.
India assumed the BRICS Chairship on January 1, 2026, and will hold it until December 31, 2026. Building on its previous chairships in 2012, 2016, and 2021, India has emphasized practical cooperation, knowledge exchange, and collaborative solutions to shared global challenges.
