Orbia Netafim Opens New Irrigation Manufacturing Plant in Mexico

08 June 2026, Mexico: Orbia Netafim has strengthened its presence in the Americas with the inauguration of a major new manufacturing facility in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, aimed at meeting rising demand for precision irrigation solutions and improving service delivery to farmers across North and Central America.

The new plant, spanning 30,000 square metres, represents a significant expansion of Orbia Netafim’s global production network and is set to become one of the company’s largest manufacturing facilities worldwide. The site is the company’s third production facility in Mexico and its 21st manufacturing plant globally.

The investment comes at a time when growers across the Americas are increasingly adopting precision irrigation technologies to address mounting challenges related to water scarcity, rising production costs and the need to improve on-farm productivity.

According to the company, the Hermosillo facility will primarily manufacture thin-wall drip irrigation solutions, with plans to add dedicated heavy-wall dripline production in the future. The plant incorporates advanced automation systems designed to ensure consistent product quality, operational efficiency and manufacturing reliability while supporting responsible production practices.

By bringing production closer to key agricultural markets, Orbia Netafim expects to shorten delivery times, improve supply responsiveness and enhance collaboration with farmers and channel partners throughout the growing season.

The new facility further strengthens the company’s North American manufacturing footprint, joining existing operations in Reynosa, Mexico, and Fresno, California, along with recycling facilities in California and Culiacán, Mexico. Together, these facilities create a more resilient and responsive regional manufacturing network capable of supporting the evolving needs of agricultural producers.

“Farmers across the Americas are increasingly turning to precision irrigation solutions as they confront water limitations, higher input costs and growing pressure to improve productivity,” said Sameer Bharadwaj, Chief Executive Officer of Orbia. “The new Hermosillo facility enhances our regional supply capabilities, brings us closer to our customers and positions us to better serve markets where adoption of precision agriculture technologies continues to accelerate.”

Located in the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora, Hermosillo offers strategic access to major agricultural production regions and benefits from strong transportation infrastructure, including rail connectivity adjacent to the plant. The region is an important centre for commodity crop production and fresh produce cultivation, but it is also among Mexico’s most water-stressed agricultural areas.

The expansion aligns with broader efforts to modernize agricultural water management systems in Mexico, where improving irrigation efficiency is increasingly viewed as critical for long-term agricultural sustainability.

“At Orbia Netafim, we begin with farmers, working closely with them to understand the challenges they face every season,” said Gaby Miodownik, President of Orbia Precision Agriculture (Netafim). “The Hermosillo plant marks a major milestone for our business in the Americas. It strengthens our ability to support growers when they need us most and reflects our commitment to helping farmers build resilience and grow with confidence.”
