2026/27 Soybean Planting Dates in Brazil Vary by Region
07 September 2026, Brazil: Soybean planting in Brazil can be spread out over a six-month period depending on location. The bulk of the soybeans will be planted between mid-September and the end of November depending on the weather.
Below is the state-by-state calendar for soybean planting in Brazil for the 2026/27 growing season. As you can see, it is rather complicated, sometimes even within a state. The date farmers may start planting is dictated to a large extend by the “soybean free” period during which no live soybeans are permitted.
The “soybean free” period is in place between growing seasons to limit the spread of soybean rust disease from one growing season to the next and to delay its entry into the newly planted soybean crop.
Prior to the arrival of soybean rust in Brazil during the 2000/01 growing season, farmers routinely planted two crops of soybeans in the same field during the same growing season, but that is no longer allowed. Once a second crop of soybeans was prohibited, famers turned to corn for their second crop and now safrinha corn accounts for 75 to 80% of Brazil’s total corn production.
