China’s Glyphosate Technical Price Rises Again as NBS Data Show Second Straight 10-Day Gain

12 October 2026, Beijing: The price of glyphosate technical material in China rose for a second consecutive 10-day period in late September 2026, according to official data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), even as prices for several major fertilizers fell over the same stretch.

NBS’s “Market Prices of Important Means of Production in Circulation” report, covering September 21-30, 2026 and published October 9, 2026, put the price of 95% glyphosate technical material at 28,250.0 yuan per tonne. That is up 1,157.1 yuan, or 4.3%, from the prior 10-day period (September 11-20). The late-September reading builds on an already sharp move: NBS’s mid-September release had put the price at 27,092.9 yuan per tonne, itself up 6.4% from early September. Put together, glyphosate technical has risen by roughly 2,775 yuan per tonne, or about 10.9%, over the back half of September alone.

Glyphosate was the only item in NBS’s “agricultural means of production” price basket to post a gain of that scale in the same release. Four fertilizer products tracked in the same category all declined over the same 10-day window: small and medium granule urea fell 1.3%, 55% monoammonium phosphate fell 3.8%, 62% white muriate of potash (port price) fell 0.5%, and 45% NPK potassium sulfate compound fertilizer fell 0.3%.

NBS does not attribute the move in its release, which reports prices as a straightforward 10-day survey rather than a commentary. The report does not name individual producers, plants, or buyers, and it does not break out export versus domestic sales.

The divergence between glyphosate and fertilizer prices is notable because the two input categories often move together when broader agricultural demand or energy costs shift. Glyphosate production is energy and chemical feedstock intensive (it relies on inputs such as phosphorus trichloride, methanol, and liquid chlorine), so sustained increases can reflect either tightening feedstock supply, planned or unplanned production curtailments among Chinese manufacturers, or a pickup in order volumes as glyphosate’s main demand window, pre-winter and dormant-season weed burndown in China and spring-season herbicide buying in the Southern Hemisphere, approaches.
