China’s Glyphosate Technical Price Rises 6.4% in Mid-September, National Bureau of Statistics Reports

03 October 2026, Beijing: The price of 95% glyphosate technical in China climbed to 27,092.9 yuan per tonne in mid-September 2026, up 1,617.9 yuan, or 6.4%, from early September, according to a market price bulletin released by China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on September 24, 2026. The figure is the most recent official government price reading available for the herbicide and points to continued tightening in China’s glyphosate supply chain heading into the final quarter of the year.

The NBS bulletin, part of a regular 10-day price survey of 50 major production materials across nine categories, draws on reporting from roughly 2,000 enterprises across more than 300 trading markets in all 31 provinces. Glyphosate was one of 21 products in the mid-September survey to register a price increase, against 26 that fell and three that held steady. Several upstream chemical inputs relevant to agrochemical manufacturing also moved during the same period: methanol rose 9.4%, acetic acid rose 17.4%, and sulfuric acid (98%) fell 3.2%.

Separately, Chinese trade press reporting in the weeks ahead of the NBS release pointed to a broader run-up across China’s major herbicide actives, including glufosinate-ammonium, which rose roughly 12% over the month to mid-September. Industry commentary attributed the pressure to a mix of factors: raw material cost volatility tied to disruption in global chemical feedstock markets since earlier in 2026, the removal of export tax rebates on some agrochemical exports effective April 1, 2026, and steadily rising global demand for glyphosate and glufosinate as glyphosate-tolerant cropping systems expand and as glufosinate continues to gain share following restrictions on paraquat in multiple markets.

China remains the world’s dominant producer and exporter of glyphosate technical, supplying the bulk of global demand from manufacturers concentrated in provinces such as Sichuan, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Because of that concentration, movements in China’s domestic glyphosate price typically feed through to export quotations within weeks, affecting formulators and importers in major user markets including Brazil, the United States and India, all of which rely heavily on Chinese technical material for their own glyphosate formulation businesses.
