Indian Agrochemical Association Challenges Pesticide Claims in Upcoming Film

09 July 2026, New Delhi: The Agro Chem Federation of India (ACFI) has urged India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to review what it calls misleading and scientifically unsupported pesticide-related claims in the upcoming film The India Story: Slow Poison in Progress, ahead of its July 24 release.

ACFI said the film draws direct links between pesticide use, cancer, and food safety without credible scientific evidence, warning that such claims could damage the reputation of Indian agriculture, undermine public confidence, and affect agricultural exports.

“The film presents India’s agricultural and food systems in an alarmist manner and appears to draw direct causal links between modern agricultural practices and public health issues without scientific substantiation. Such portrayals risk damaging India’s agricultural reputation, farmers’ livelihoods, and national food security,” said Dr. Kalyan Goswami, Director General, ACFI.

The federation cited data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and India’s National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), arguing that the film overlooks scientific evidence and the country’s regulatory safeguards governing pesticide use and food safety.

ACFI has called on India’s film certification authority to ensure that any misleading or unsubstantiated claims are addressed before the film is certified for public release.
