World Food Safety Day 2026 / FAO Launches Bilingual Online Food Safety Course For The Near East And North Africa
04 July 2026, Egypt: To mark World Food Safety Day 2026, under the global theme “From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere”, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through its Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (FAO RNE) and the FAO Virtual Learning Center (FAO VLC), launched the bilingual online course “Fundamentals of Food Safety in the Near East and North Africa Region”, available in English and Arabic.
The course was launched during an opening webinar attended by food control authorities, academia, research institutions, food industry representatives, and food safety professionals from across the region. More than 400 participants from 19 countries registered for the event, demonstrating the region’s strong commitment to strengthening food safety through science, knowledge sharing, and capacity development.
Developed jointly by FAO RNE and the FAO VLC, in collaboration with experts from academia, food control authorities, and the food industry, the course provides practical, science-based learning on food safety principles, food hygiene, food control systems, Codex Alimentarius standards, regulatory frameworks, and the impacts of climate change on food safety.
Through self-paced online learning, interactive webinars, discussions, and assessments, participants strengthen the competencies needed to support safer food and stronger national food control systems.
The launch also featured a high-level panel discussion highlighting the importance of partnerships, innovation, digital learning, and science-based decision-making in addressing emerging food safety challenges and building resilient food safety systems across the Near East and North Africa.
