India Approves 13 New Agrochemical Registrations under 9(3) in 473rd Registration Committee Meeting

This article is part of Global Agriculture’s ongoing coverage of crop protection regulations, product registrations, and technology developments across global agricultural markets.

08 July 2026, New Delhi: India’s Registration Committee (RC), under the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee (CIB&RC), approved a series of new registrations for indigenous manufacture and import of crop protection products during its 473rd meeting held in June last week, chaired by Dr. P.K. Singh, Agriculture Commissioner and Chairman of the Registration Committee.

The approvals cover a broad range of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, seed treatment formulations, botanical products, and technical-grade active ingredients. Several companies, including BASF India, Bayer CropScience, UPL, Corteva Agriscience India, Willowood Industries, Best Crop Science, and T. Stanes & Company, secured registrations under Section 9(3) of the Insecticides Act, 1968.

The decisions are expected to expand growers’ access to advanced crop protection technologies while strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.

BASF Receives Multiple Product Registrations

BASF India emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the meeting, receiving approvals for four new formulations.

Among the notable approvals is Imazapic 17.5% + Imazapyr 52.5% WG, registered for use in herbicide-tolerant rice and herbicide-tolerant mustard. The herbicide controls major weed species including Echinochloa colona, Cynodon dactylon, Chenopodium album, Argemone mexicana, and Orobanche aegyptiaca.

The company also secured registration for Mefentrifluconazole 200 g/L + Fluxapyroxad 200 g/L SC for managing sheath blight and dirty panicle in rice.

Another significant approval was granted for Mefentrifluconazole 200 g/L + Pyraclostrobin 200 g/L SC, targeting a broad spectrum of diseases across cotton, tomato, maize, chilli, groundnut, and soybean.

Additionally, BASF received approval for Quinclorac 250 g/L SC for controlling Echinochloa species and Panicum repens in rice.

Bayer, Corteva and UPL Strengthen Rice and Maize Portfolios

Bayer CropScience obtained registration for Triafamone 18.52% SC, designed for weed management in both direct-seeded and transplanted rice.

The company also secured approval for Tetraniliprole 20% + Fipronil 20% FS, a seed treatment formulation for maize and rice targeting stem borers, fall armyworm and leaf folder. The Registration Committee directed Bayer to include environmental cautionary statements on the product label due to its toxicity to aquatic organisms and honey bees.

Corteva Agriscience India received registration for Triflumezopyrim 3.74% + Benzpyrimoxan 14.02% SC, intended for controlling brown planthopper, white-backed planthopper and green leafhopper in rice. The approval is subject to fixation of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs).

UPL secured approval for Pretilachlor 30% + Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 0.75% WG, offering broad-spectrum weed control in both direct-seeded and transplanted rice.

Technical Active Ingredients Gain Approval

The Registration Committee also approved indigenous manufacturing registrations for several technical-grade active ingredients.

Willowood Industries received approvals for indigenous manufacture of Fluxapyroxad Technical 98%, Fluopyram Technical 94.5%, Cyantraniliprole Technical 94%.

Best Crop Science obtained approval for Clethodim Technical 92.4%.

Botanical Crop Protection Also Advances

In a notable development for bio-based crop protection, T. Stanes & Company received registration for a Cymbopogon plant extract-based EC formulation containing Geraniol 1% and Citral 25%. The botanical formulation has been approved for the management of bacterial leaf spot in chilli.

The approval highlights the Registration Committee’s continued consideration of plant-based crop protection technologies alongside conventional chemistry.

Regulatory Outlook

All approvals are subject to the fixation of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) in respective crops before market launch. Several deferred technical applications from the same meeting may be reconsidered in the next Registration Committee session, expected in August 2026.
