Fenargimine Approved as New ISO Common Name for Nematicide from SML Limited
25 March 2026, Geneva: In a significant development for the global crop protection industry, the ISO 1750 Maintenance Agency has officially approved “fenargimine” as a new ISO common name for a nematicide developed by SML Limited.
The approval was confirmed on March 17, 2026, following the standard consultation process, during which no objections were raised to the proposed name. As a result, “fenargimine” will now be formally included in the March 2026 update of the ISO 1750:2023 XML dataset, which standardizes common names for pesticides and agrochemical substances worldwide.
Fenargimine corresponds to the chemical compound: [N2(E)]-N2-[(2E)-3-phenyl-2-propen-1-ylidene]-L-arginine (CAS No.: 3053452-57-3)
The recognition of an ISO common name is a crucial step in the commercialization and global regulatory acceptance of crop protection molecules. It ensures consistency in identification across markets, regulatory frameworks, and scientific literature.
As a nematicide, fenargimine is expected to play a role in managing plant-parasitic nematodes—microscopic pests that significantly impact crop productivity across a wide range of agricultural systems.
The French-approved common name, “fénargimine,” has also been adopted as part of the international standardization process.
With this approval, fenargimine joins the global list of standardized agrochemical active ingredients, marking another addition to the pipeline of solutions aimed at improving crop health and yield outcomes.
