ISO Provisionally Approves ‘Bipyribicyclone’ as New Herbicide Common Name
26 August 2026, Geneva: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has provisionally approved “Bipyribicyclone” as a new common name for a herbicide developed by Qingdao KingAgroot Chemical Compound Co.
The new common name was provisionally approved on August 22, 2026, according to the ISO 1750 Maintenance Agency. The corresponding Chinese common name is 氯氟啶草酯.
Bipyribicyclone is identified chemically as 3-(5′-chloro-3′-fluoro-6-methoxy[2,2′-bipyridin]-5-yl)-4-oxobicyclo[3.2.1]oct-2-en-2-yl methyl carbonate, with the CAS Registry Number [3104861-57-3].
The provisional approval allows interested parties to raise objections to the proposed common name. Any objections, including those based on potential conflicts with existing company trademarks, must be submitted to the ISO 1750 Maintenance Agency by February 22, 2027.
If no objections are received, bipyribicyclone will become an approved ISO common name and will be included in a future edition of ISO 1750, which will contain preferred names as well as common names.
The ISO common name is also provisionally approved in French as “bipyribicyclone.”
The development adds another active ingredient to the international pesticide nomenclature process and establishes a standardized name for the herbicide for future technical, regulatory and industry references.
