ISO Provisionally Approves ‘Flupyropen’ as Common Name for New Pyropene Insecticide

11 July 2026, US: The ISO 1750 Maintenance Agency has provisionally approved “flupyropen” as the ISO common name for a new pyropene insecticide developed by Qingdao KingAgroot Chemical Compound Co., Ltd.. The provisional approval was granted on 3 July 2026.

The insecticide, previously identified by its Chinese common name 氟环虫酯, has been assigned the provisional ISO common name flupyropen, marking an important step toward its international recognition and standardization within the global crop protection industry.

Flupyropen corresponds to the following chemical compound:

[(3S,4R,4aR,6S,6aS,12R,12aS,12bS)-3-[(cyclopropylcarbonyl)oxy]-9-(5-fluoro-3-pyridinyl)-1,3,4,4a,5,6,6a,12,12a,12b-decahydro-6,12-dihydroxy-4,6a,12b-trimethyl-11-oxo-2H,11H-naphtho[2,1-b]pyrano[3,4-e]pyran-4-yl]methyl cyclopropanecarboxylate.

The ISO 1750 Maintenance Agency has invited stakeholders to submit any objections to the proposed name, particularly where there may be concerns regarding potential trademark conflicts. Objections must be filed no later than 3 January 2027.

If no objections are received by the deadline, flupyropen will become the officially approved ISO common name and will be included in a future edition of ISO 1750, which will contain both preferred names and ISO common names for pesticides.

The provisional name has also been adopted in other languages as “flupyropène” in French and “флупиропен” in Russian.

The assignment of an ISO common name provides a globally harmonized, non-proprietary designation for pesticide active ingredients, facilitating consistent identification across regulatory submissions, scientific literature, product registration, and international trade.
