ISO Provisionally Approves ‘Ioflanilide’ as New Insecticide Common Name
07 September 2026, Geneva: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has provisionally approved Ioflanilide as the common name for a new meta-diamide insecticide from Shandong Chengchuang Lanhai Pharmaceutical Technology.
According to the ISO 1750 Maintenance Agency, the name was provisionally approved on September 2, 2026. The proposed active ingredient has the chemical designation 5-chloro-N-[2-fluoro-3-[[[2-iodo-4-[1,2,2,2-tetrafluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethyl]-6-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]amino]carbonyl]phenyl]-2-thiophenecarboxamide and carries CAS No. 3062078-55-8.
The provisional approval is an important step in establishing a standardized international name for the new crop-protection active ingredient. However, the name is not yet final.
The ISO 1750 Maintenance Agency has given interested parties until March 2, 2027, to submit objections. This could include objections related to potential conflicts with existing trademarks.
If no objections are received, ioflanilide will receive final approval and will be included in a future edition of ISO 1750, which provides standardized preferred and common names for pesticides.
The proposed name is also listed in other languages, including иофланилид in Russian and 氟碘噻酰胺 in Chinese.
