FiBL and The Czech Republic Together For Organic Farming
18 June 2025, Switzerland: On 12 June, a group of Czech organic pioneers visited FiBL, including the Deputy Minister of Agriculture. FiBL took the opportunity to thank long-time friend Jiří Urban for his support by presenting him with a cowbell. Jiří already came to FiBL as a trainee and was significantly involved in establishing organic farming in the Czech Republic.
On 12 June, FiBL had the pleasure of welcoming familiar faces: A group of organic pioneers from the Czech Republic came to visit. They included Miroslav Skřivánek, Czech Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Jiří Urban from the Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture ÚKZÚZ, Jiří Chlebníček, co-founder of the Pro-Bio association and Tomáš Mitáček, founder of Sonnentor Czech Republic.
FiBL has a long-standing history with Jiří Urban in particular. Jiří came to FiBL as an intern in 1991 through the organic viticulture legends Margrit and Louis Liesch. He later became Deputy Minister of Agriculture in the Czech Republic and played a key role in the development of organic farming in his country.
We took the opportunity to thank Jiří with a cowbell for his many years of support. Jiří supports FiBL in numerous projects, including the Quality Food Trade Programme (QFTP) in Ukraine. You can read more about the history of cooperation between FiBL and the Czech organic movement in the obituary of Louis Liesch on bioaktuell.ch (in german).
