Bilateral Meeting with The Honourable Sa’aga Talu Teafa, Minister for Natural Resources of Tuvalu

24 April 2026, Brunei: The FAO Director-General Dr QU Dongyu, met today with The Honourable Sa’aga Talu Teafa, Minister for Natural Resources of Tuvalu, on the margins of the 38th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific.

The Minister thanked the Director-General for FAO’s continued support to Tuvalu, including in the areas of livestock development, the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) Initiative, and the Hand-in-Hand Initiative Investment Plan to enhance food security, economic resilience, and agricultural development. Reaffirming Tuvalu’s commitment to working with FAO and partners for sustainable agrifood systems transformation, the Minister outlined priority areas for further collaboration. These included the need to strengthen implementation capacity, accelerate agricultural mechanization to improve productivity, and advance the formulation and resourcing of a national investment plan for sustainable agriculture.

The Director‑General appreciated Tuvalu’s continued collaboration with FAO to achieve food security and nutrition. He encouraged strengthened regional and thematic cooperation among Pacific Island countries to develop coordinated investment proposals to improve agricultural productivity for priority crops. The Director-General emphasized FAO’s readiness to continue working together to support Tuvalu in advancing efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems in line with the Four Betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, ensuring that no one in the Pacific is left behind.
