India Envoy Hosts Senior US Officials, Signals Progress in Trade Negotiations
16 April 2026, Washington: India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, met Jamieson Greer and former US National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien in Washington on Wednesday, as negotiations continue on a proposed bilateral trade agreement between India and United States.
An Indian delegation is expected to visit the US soon for further rounds of discussions on the agreement.
In a post on X, Kwatra wrote: “Honored to host Amb. Jamieson Greer and Amb. Robert O’Brien at India House today. We had productive conversation on a range of bilateral cooperation opportunities.”
Earlier this year, in February, both countries announced the finalisation of a framework for the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement. Under that framework, the US had agreed to reduce tariffs on India to 18 per cent.
