Stay informed on Iptriazopyrid herbicide, rice weed control, HPPD inhibitors, barnyard grass, herbicide resistance, paddy weed management, and novel crop protection chemistry.
Iptriazopyrid, also known by the development code NC-656, is a novel rice herbicide active ingredient discovered by Nissan Chemical Corporation. It belongs to a new azole carboxamide chemical structure and acts as an inhibitor of 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD), an enzyme involved in carotenoid biosynthesis. HPPD inhibitors are classified under HRAC Group 27.
Research by Nissan Chemical and Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST)found that Iptriazopyrid provides strong control of barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli), a major weed in paddy rice. Studies also demonstrated strong selectivity toward rice, with rice plants rapidly metabolizing the herbicide while barnyard grass does not metabolize it in the same way. The research identified Iptriazopyrid as a slow-binding HPPD inhibitor with a chemical structure distinct from established HPPD herbicides.
Iptriazopyrid is particularly significant because it is being developed as a foliar-applied HPPD herbicide for paddy rice, unlike several established HPPD herbicides used primarily as water-applied treatments. It is also being investigated for control of resistant grass weeds, including barnyard grass and red sprangletop.
Regulatory development is underway in multiple markets. In the United States, Nissan Chemical Corporation submitted applications for Iptriazopyrid Technical and Iptriazopyrid 100 g/L SC, with rice listed as the proposed use. India has also evaluated Iptriazopyrid through the Central Insecticides Board, with the active ingredient approved for use as a herbicide in paddy fields.
This category features Iptriazopyrid research, NC-656 developments, Nissan Chemical, HPPD inhibitors, HRAC Group 27, rice herbicides, barnyard grass control, resistant weeds, regulatory approvals, product registrations, field trials, and innovations in paddy weed management.
