India Approves 17 New Crop Protection Products Under Section 9(3)
18 June 2026, New Delhi: India’s pesticide regulator has approved a series of new crop protection technologies, technical-grade active ingredients, and plant growth regulators under Section 9(3) of the Insecticides Act during 472nd RC Meeting, marking another significant addition to the country’s crop protection portfolio.
The newly approved registrations include both indigenous manufacturing and formulation import permissions granted to multinational and domestic agrochemical companies. Several of the products introduce new combinations targeting difficult-to-control insect pests and diseases, while others strengthen local manufacturing capacity for key technical-grade active ingredients.
Among the notable approvals is BASF India’s Profoxydim 200 g/L EC, a post-emergence herbicide approved for weed management in transplanted and direct-seeded rice. The product targets important grassy weeds including Echinochloa colona, Eleusine indica, Panicum repens and Dactyloctenium aegyptium, offering rice growers an additional tool for weed resistance management.

Bayer CropScience secured approval for Isoxaflutole Technical 97.2% minimum purity. However, the Registration Committee noted concerns regarding the persistence and mobility of major metabolites in soil and their potential to leach into groundwater. The committee observed that one of the metabolites, Diketonitrile, is the principal herbicidal metabolite associated with the molecule.
Several technical-grade registrations were approved to support domestic manufacturing. These include Fluxapyroxad Technical for both ADAMA India and Crystal Crop Protection, Bensulfuron Methyl Technical for Agro Life Science Corporation, Cyantraniliprole Technical for GSP Crop Science, and Dicloromezotiaz Technical for PI Industries. Approvals are expected to strengthen indigenous production capabilities and reduce dependence on imported intermediates.
The committee also approved a number of new formulation products. ADAMA India’s Fluxapyroxad + Azoxystrobin suspension concentrate received approval for managing powdery mildew, sheath blight, anthracnose, leaf spot and fruit rot diseases in grapes, rice and chilli. Meanwhile, GSP Crop Science obtained approval for a three-way insecticidal combination comprising Cyantraniliprole, Tolfenpyrad and Abamectin for the management of thrips, black thrips, fruit borers and yellow mites.
In cotton, Rallis India received approval for Pyrifluquinazon + Buprofezin SC targeting whiteflies and jassids, while Corteva Crop India secured registration for Sulfoxaflor + Bifenthrin SE for the control of aphids, jassids and thrips in cotton and aphids and thrips in pomegranate.
Syngenta India was granted registration for Mesotrione 9.09% SC for weed control in sugarcane and maize. The herbicide targets several broadleaf and grassy weeds, providing growers with an additional post-emergence weed management option.
PI Industries received a dual boost with approvals for both Dicloromezotiaz Technical and Dicloromezotiaz 20% SC formulation. The formulation is intended for managing semiloopers, pod borers, tobacco caterpillars and diamondback moth in crops including soybean, cabbage, chilli and tomato.
Coromandel International obtained approval for Nitenpyram + Pymetrozine DF for the control of brown planthopper and white-backed planthopper in rice. In the plant growth regulator segment, Crystal Crop Protection secured registration for Gibberellic Acid 20% Tablet for use in tomato.
The committee also approved new-source technical registrations for Spinosad Technical in favour of Mahamaya Lifesciences and Bentazone Technical in favour of Willowood Chemicals. However, an application for Chlorothalonil Technical from Krishi Rasayan Exports was rejected due to issues relating to the registered manufacturing source.
