Fendt Square Baler — Six High-Capacity Models with Xtra Density Technology

01 August 2026, Germany: The Fendt Square Baler traces its roots to the very first square baler built in Hesston, Kansas, 40 years ago — and has been produced there under AGCO ownership since 2000. Since launching in Germany in 2002, the range has built a reputation for rugged, durable design and consistently high output.

Model range: Six high-capacity models — 990 (80 x 90 cm), 1270 (120 x 70 cm), 1290 and 1290 XD (120 x 90 cm), and 12130 (120 x 130 cm) — each engineered around bale size and output.

Standout feature — Xtra Density (XD): For farms where transport cost per kilogram of crop matters most, the Xtra Density models deliver up to 20% heavier bales than standard, through a completely reinforced driveline: a 545 kg XD flywheel — almost double the weight of the standard unit — a 35% heavier main gearbox, new plunger arms, a bale chamber extended by 40 cm, stronger hydraulic cylinders and repositioned side-wall pivot points for extra friction. Independent trade press testing recorded bale weights of 479–499 kg on the 1290 S XD, at a peak output of up to 57.4 t/h.

Key highlights:

  • 2.26 m wide pickup with centring augers for clean, uniform crop pick-up into the pre-compression chamber
  • Tool-free pickup lowering height adjustment and removable gauge wheels
  • Automatic knotter and chain lubrication, with lubrication intervals set via the terminal
  • Large opening side panels and grease-sealed bearings for fast, easy maintenance
  • Steerable tandem axle with optional 620/40-22.5 tyres — large ground contact area under a 3.30 m transport width
  • Hydraulic bale ejector and foldable bale chute for quick changeover to road transport, up to 60 km/h
  • Pre-wired camera port as standard for a rear-facing view of the baling chamber
  • Up to 5-year extended after-sales warranty available

For high-throughput operations that measure profitability in tonnes per hour and cost per kilogram transported, the Fendt Square Baler range — especially the Xtra Density models — delivers density and durability built on four decades of engineering.
