19 July 2026, Rome: Under the theme “From Burden Estimates to Solutions: Towards Safe Food Everywhere”, and on the occasion of World Food Safety Day 2026, the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at Damascus University, the General Commission for Biotechnology, and the Agricultural Technical Institute, in cooperation with the Health, Safety and Environment Association, organized the World Food Safety Day 2026 Conference, under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The conference was held on 4 July 2026 at the National Library Auditorium in Damascus, and brought together government entities, academics, experts and specialists in agriculture, food processing, health, environment, industry and economy, as well as professionals working in quality systems and food safety. The programme featured specialized sessions addressing food processing, supply chains, food safety, modern technologies, food safety in restaurants, children’s foods, and the role of nanotechnology in strengthening food control and food safety systems.
Discussions focused on practical solutions to enhance food safety, including supporting the implementation of quality management systems, improving traceability mechanisms across supply chains, raising community awareness, promoting the use of modern technologies in food control, and strengthening partnerships between government, research institutions and the private sector.
Throughout the sessions, speakers emphasized that food safety is a cornerstone of public health worldwide. They highlighted recent international evidence showing that diseases caused by unsafe food represent a major health challenge, requiring stronger food control systems, enhanced scientific research, and the application of international best practices. Participants further stressed that ensuring access to safe, high-quality food for consumers is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation among regulatory authorities, decision-makers, and food-sector institutions.
