World Food Safety Day / Students Raise Awareness Of Food Safety Through Interactive Learning Activities

11 June 2026, New Delhi: To mark World Food Safety Day, whose theme this year was “From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food for All,” we held an academic and awareness-raising workshop with students from the Food and Beverage Hygiene and Safety course. The aim was to promote greater awareness of the importance of food safety throughout the entire food chain.

As part of the activities, the students presented five fast-sketches or short skits that addressed common food safety risks:

From Gray to Green: the dangers associated with the improper use of pesticides and chemical contamination of food.

The Cheeky Fruit: the consequences of leaving food exposed to the environment and insects, promoting biological contamination.

Chef Blackbeard: the importance of personal hygiene and proper beard trimming to prevent contamination by microorganisms. • The Chef with Flow: the risks of using accessories such as rings, bracelets, and necklaces while handling food, which can lead to physical contamination.

We See Colours, But We Don’t Know the Contamination: a skit about the incorrect use of cutting boards and the risks of cross-contamination.

Each skit lasted approximately one to two minutes. Afterward, an alarm indicated an unsafe practice, prompting the participants to identify the observed problem. Then, using artificial intelligence tools, a one-minute educational video was shown that reinforced the main message, followed by an explanation focused on preventing foodborne illnesses.

Finally, the participants reinforced their knowledge through an interactive activity using digital learning tools.

The event was attended by more than 120 people, including students, faculty, university authorities, and external visitors, who actively participated in all the scheduled activities. As part of the experience, an educational raffle was also held for items related to hygiene and sanitation, encouraging the adoption of good food safety practices.
