New Mango Variety ‘Rajnath Aam’ Introduced by Renowned Horticulturist in Uttar Pradesh

08 June 2025, Uttar PradeshA celebrated mango cultivator Kalimullah Khan from Malihabad has introduced a new mango variety, named ‘Rajnath Aam’ in honour of India’s Defence Minister. Known for his pioneering work in mango grafting, the farmer has previously named mangoes after several prominent national figures, contributing to a unique blend of horticulture and homage.

The veteran cultivator, a recipient of one of India’s highest civilian honours for his contributions to agriculture, stated that his aim is to preserve the legacy of individuals who have significantly contributed to the nation. “I believe names should live on through nature’s gifts. That’s why I dedicate some of these varieties to those who have served the country with distinction,” he explained.

Malihabad, historically famous for its mango heritage, once boasted more than 1,300 mango varieties in the early 20th century. Many of these have since disappeared. Through decades of dedication and experimentation, the cultivator has developed and maintained over 300 distinct varieties in his orchard, reviving the region’s lost horticultural treasures.
