Union Agriculture Minister Visits ICAR-RCER Patna, Emphasizes Farmer-Centric Research for Viksit Bharat
17 June 2025, New Delhi: “I am one of the farmers — committed to their progress,” said Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, during his visit to the ICAR–Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna. The Minister reviewed the institute’s scientific progress and urged the research community to align their work with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
He was accompanied by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with senior officials from the central and state governments.
The visit began with a tree plantation ceremony at the ICAR-RCER campus, followed by a detailed presentation by Dr. Ashutosh Upadhyaya, Acting Director of ICAR-RCER. The presentation showcased the institute’s key achievements and ongoing initiatives in enhancing water productivity, promoting climate-resilient agriculture, farmer-focused technologies, and integrated land and water management — especially for small and marginal farmers.
The Minister appreciated the scientific contributions of the institute and emphasized the importance of translational research to ensure timely field-level adoption of new technologies. He also commended the work of ICAR and its Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in the recently concluded Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA). Calling it a historic initiative, he noted that for the first time, central and state agriculture departments collaborated so closely to deliver science-driven solutions directly to farmers.
A scientific interaction was also held with researchers from ICAR-RCER and ICAR-ATARI Patna. Discussions covered key topics such as natural farming, conservation agriculture, agrometeorological advisories, soil health management, and regional farming innovations. The Minister praised the institute’s interdisciplinary approach and encouraged scientists to expand their innovation and outreach activities to make research more accessible to farmers.
An exhibition featuring the institute’s developed technologies and crop varieties was also organized during the event.
