Unnat Krishi Mahotsav Concludes in Raisen with Focus on Technology, Water Management and Farm Growth

14 April 2026, Bhopal: The national-level agricultural fair Unnat Krishi Mahotsav concluded in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, drawing strong participation from farmers, agri experts, policymakers and industry stakeholders. The four-day event focused on agricultural transformation through technology adoption, water conservation, value addition and stronger market linkages for farmers.

The closing session was attended by Nitin Gadkari and Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Discussions centred on building a future-ready farm economy through innovation, infrastructure and region-specific crop planning.

Road Infrastructure and Regional Development

During the event, key announcements were made for regional infrastructure in Raisen. Support was expressed for the Raisen Ring Road/Eastern Bypass project, including preparation of a Detailed Project Report and land acquisition support from the state government. Other local infrastructure proposals, including bridge beautification and road connectivity improvements, were also discussed.

Agriculture Powered by Knowledge and Technology

Addressing farmers, Gadkari said the future of farming will increasingly depend on technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, weather stations, satellite systems, drones and nano urea. He emphasised that knowledge must be converted into wealth and urged farmers to adopt research-led and cost-efficient farming practices to improve productivity and profitability.

He also highlighted emerging opportunities beyond food production, noting that farmers can play a larger role in supplying biomass, ethanol, CNG, hydrogen, aviation fuel and other bio-based resources that can strengthen rural economies and reduce import dependence.

Strong Push for Water Conservation

Water conservation remained a major theme of the event. Farmers were encouraged to focus on rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and on-farm water storage systems. The message was clear: better water management will be critical for sustaining agriculture in the years ahead, especially in regions facing irrigation constraints.

Dairy, Fisheries and Value Addition Seen as Growth Engines

The event also highlighted the importance of dairy, fisheries and allied sectors in boosting farm incomes. Speakers stressed that increasing production alone is not enough. Strong post-harvest systems such as processing units, pre-cooling centres, cold chains and storage facilities are essential to help farmers secure better prices and reduce distress sales.

Farmers visiting the exhibition explored modern solutions including farm machinery, polyhouses, greenhouses, hydroponics models, goat rearing systems, fish farming and one-acre integrated farming concepts.

Seed-to-Market Roadmap for Raisen Region

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the conclusion of the Mahotsav marks the beginning of long-term action. He announced that a detailed seed-to-market roadmap has been prepared based on the region’s soil type, climate conditions, water resources and market potential. The roadmap identifies suitable crops, fruits and vegetables while outlining plans for production, processing and marketing.

Expansion of Pulses, Horticulture and Mechanisation

The government also announced plans to develop Beej Gram initiatives in every block to improve access to quality seeds. Pulses and horticulture cultivation will be expanded, while the region is expected to be developed as a horticulture hub. Increased use of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems was also emphasised.

To improve mechanisation access, Custom Hiring Centres and Machine Banks will be developed at the Panchayat level. Additional plans include quality nurseries, Clean Plant Centres, stronger Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), pack houses and cold storage facilities.

Task Force for Implementation

A dedicated task force and national-level steering committee will monitor implementation of the announced roadmap. Teams from central and state governments are expected to coordinate to ensure that the plans move from policy to field-level execution.

Farmer ID and Future Access to Services

Farmers were also encouraged to create their Farmer ID, which is expected to simplify access to schemes, agricultural services and future government processes.

A Platform for India’s Farm Future

The successful conclusion of Unnat Krishi Mahotsav in Raisen underlined the growing national focus on technology-led farming, water security, diversified rural income and stronger value chains. The event positioned Raisen as an important example of how region-specific agricultural planning can support India’s long-term farm growth agenda.
