India Tractor Retail Sales Reach 83,092 Units in May 2026; TAFE Records Fastest Growth Among Major OEMs

09 June 2026, New Delhi: India’s tractor retail market maintained its positive momentum in May 2026, with total retail sales reaching 83,092 units, compared to 74,744 units in May 2025, registering a year-on-year growth of 11.17%, according to data released by FADA Research.

The growth reflects continued demand from the agricultural sector despite regional variations in rainfall, crop prices, and farm income conditions. Tractor demand during the month was supported by preparations for the upcoming kharif season, improved rural sentiment in several states, and expectations of a normal monsoon.

Among the leading manufacturers, Mahindra & Mahindra (Tractor Division) retained its position as the market leader with retail sales of 19,077 units, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra’s Swaraj Division at 15,205 units and International Tractors Limited (Sonalika) at 11,120 units.

A notable highlight of the month was the strong performance of TAFE Limited, which recorded retail sales of 10,659 units, representing the highest growth rate among major tractor manufacturers at 42.06% over the previous year. The company’s market share also increased significantly from 10.04% in May 2025 to 12.83% in May 2026.

Escorts Kubota continued its upward trajectory with sales of 9,539 units, posting a growth of 16.73%, while John Deere India reported modest growth of 2.36% with sales of 6,039 units.

The combined market share of the two Mahindra brands stood at 41.26%, reinforcing the group’s dominant position in India’s tractor industry.

Mahindra Continues to Dominate

Together, the two Mahindra businesses retailed 34,282 tractors, accounting for more than two-fifths of all tractor retail sales in the country.

Sonalika Strengthens Position

International Tractors Limited, which markets tractors under the Sonalika brand, recorded sales of 11,120 units, compared to 9,865 units a year ago. The company posted a growth of 12.72% and improved its market share marginally from 13.20% to 13.38%.

TAFE Emerges as the Fastest Growing Major OEM

TAFE’s performance stood out during the month. Retail sales surged from 7,503 units in May 2025 to 10,659 units in May 2026, translating into a growth of 42.06%. The company also gained nearly three percentage points in market share, making it one of the strongest performers in the industry.

Industry observers attribute the rise to strengthening dealer networks, product acceptance in key agricultural regions, and improved rural purchasing activity.

With the kharif sowing season approaching and monsoon forecasts remaining broadly favorable, industry stakeholders will be closely monitoring rural liquidity, crop acreage, and government support measures. The double-digit growth recorded in May indicates that the tractor industry remains on a firm footing, although the absence of Telangana data suggests that the final national market picture may be slightly different once complete registrations become available.
