Madhya Pradesh Begins Wheat Procurement Drive, Chief Minister Assures MSP Purchase for 1.90 Million Registered Farmers
17 April 2026, Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh has initiated its wheat procurement operations for the 2026–27 marketing season, with the state government assuring that wheat produced by all farmers registered on the procurement portal will be purchased at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The announcement comes as arrivals increase after the completion of harvesting across major wheat-growing regions.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said the welfare of farmers remains a key priority of the state government and that procurement will proceed according to the scheduled timeline. He stated that procurement from small farmers will be prioritised first, followed by medium and large farmers.
For the current season, the MSP for wheat has been fixed at ₹2,625 per quintal, with the Madhya Pradesh government also announcing an additional ₹40 per quintal bonus over and above the MSP. This takes the effective procurement price to ₹2,665 per quintal for eligible farmers in the state.
According to state officials, wheat procurement began from April 10 in the divisions of Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal and Narmadapuram, while procurement in the remaining divisions started from April 15. Slot booking for registered farmers has also been opened in phases to manage arrivals at procurement centres.
A total of 1.90 million farmers have registered for wheat procurement this season, compared with 1.54 million farmersin the previous procurement year, indicating higher participation in the government purchase programme. To support operations, the state has established 3,627 procurement centres across Madhya Pradesh.
The government has projected wheat procurement of around 7.8 million metric tonnes this season. Officials said approximately 312,000 bales of gunny bags will be required and that adequate stocks are available to begin procurement. Additional supplies are also being arranged through the Central Government, the Jute Commissioner’s Office and other agencies.
During a review meeting on procurement preparedness, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that weighing centres are inspected, procurement systems remain smooth, and farmers do not face delays or inconvenience at mandis and collection centres. He also instructed that basic facilities such as electricity, drinking water, seating, shade, sanitation and parking be made available for farmers bringing produce for sale.
The state government has also ordered faster transfer of procurement payments directly into farmers’ bank accounts and asked departments to prevent long queues of farmers and tractor-trolleys at centres during peak arrivals.
Madhya Pradesh is one of India’s leading wheat-producing states, and the progress of procurement in the coming weeks will be closely watched as government agencies seek to build buffer stocks while ensuring remunerative returns to growers.
