Dr. Bram Govaerts is the Director General (Secretary General & Chief Executive Officer) of CIMMYT, one of the world’s leading international agricultural research organizations. A globally recognized agronomist and soil scientist, he has led pioneering work on conservation agriculture, regenerative farming, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable intensification, and resilient agrifood systems. Since joining CIMMYT in 2007, he has held several senior leadership roles before being appointed Director General in 2023. Dr. Govaerts earned a Ph.D. in Bioscience Engineering – Soil Science, a Master’s in Soil Conservation and Tropical Agriculture, and a Bachelor’s in Bioscience Engineering from KU Leuven, Belgium. He is the recipient of the 2014 Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application, a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy, and an Andrew D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University. Under his leadership, CIMMYT is advancing science-driven solutions to strengthen food security, climate resilience, biodiversity, and sustainable crop production worldwide.
