PMFAI 58th AGM: Calls for Stronger Domestic Agrochemical Manufacturing to Reduce Supply Chain Risks

06 November 2026, New Delhi: The Pesticides Manufacturers & Formulators Association of India (PMFAI) held its 58th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Industry Meet on November 4, 2026, in Mumbai, bringing together representatives from the agrochemical industry, government agencies and scientific organisations.

The Industry Meet featured discussions and technical presentations on regulatory compliance, chemical supply chain security, analytical technologies, MSME development, regulatory data generation and innovations in agrochemical and biological formulations.

Addressing the gathering, PMFAI President Pradip Dave highlighted the association’s nearly six-decade role in representing more than 220 large, medium and small-scale agrochemical companies. He spoke about the contribution of domestic manufacturers to Indian agriculture and the need to strengthen local manufacturing capabilities.

Dave outlined the economic challenges facing the crop protection sector, including erratic and deficient rainfall across several agricultural regions, which affected seasonal demand. He also referred to the geopolitical crisis in West Asia since February 2026 and disruptions associated with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. These developments, he said, had affected chemical synthesis operations, resulting in raw material shortages, higher input prices and increased logistics costs.

Emphasising the need to reduce exposure to global supply chain disruptions, Dave called for greater domestic synthesis of technical-grade pesticides, key intermediates and chemical raw materials under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

He also highlighted PMFAI’s engagement with international regulatory bodies to protect the interests of Indian agrochemical manufacturers. Working with member companies and the Government of India, the PMFAI Task Force represented the industry’s position at the Stockholm and Rotterdam Conventions.
