China Clears 749 New Crop Protection Registrations in Eighth 2026 Batch, Intensifying Global Competition

06 September 2026, Beijing: China’s Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals (ICAMA), the technical body under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs that reviews pesticide registrations, released its eighth batch of 2026 pesticide registrations on July 30, clearing a total of 749 new product approvals. The batch spans both new technical grade active ingredients and finished formulations, and trade analysts say the scale of the release is likely to intensify global competition for sourcing crop protection inputs from China.

Of the 749 approvals, 39 were technical grade active ingredients, the concentrated raw materials that formulators around the world use as building blocks for finished pesticide products. These technical approvals broke down into 13 new herbicide registrations, 14 insecticide and acaricide registrations, and 12 fungicide registrations. The remaining 495 approvals in the batch were finished formulations, including new combination products and first time domestic uses of certain active ingredient blends, too numerous to list individually.

Several formulation approvals in the batch stood out as first-of-their-kind combinations rather than routine generic filings. These include a metconazole plus pyraclostrobin mixture for rice bakanae disease, a pyroxasulfone plus metribuzin herbicide for soybean, a cyflufenamid plus difenoconazole combination for strawberry powdery mildew, an ioxafenacil plus glyphosate mixture for non-crop weed control, a Bayer-registered tetraniliprole seed treatment suspension for rice stem borers, and a zhongshengmycin product cleared for apple ring spot control.

China remains one of the largest suppliers of technical grade pesticide active ingredients to manufacturers in North America, Latin America and Europe, meaning that domestic registration activity in China has direct downstream effects on global supply availability and pricing. A batch this size, weighted toward widely used, patent expired or nearing patent expiry molecules such as saflufenacil, pyroxasulfone, cyantraniliprole and fluopyram, tends to expand the pool of qualified competing suppliers rather than introduce genuinely novel chemistry, with the notable exception of the higher purity fluopyram (98.5 percent) and ipconazole (98 percent) grades, which exceed common current market specifications.

For international buyers, a wider pool of qualified Chinese producers registered against a given active ingredient can support more competitive technical grade pricing over time, though it also raises the importance of due diligence on quality consistency across a larger, more fragmented supplier base.

This matters to global agribusinesses because China’s technical grade pesticide output underpins a large share of the finished products sold by formulators and brands in India, Brazil, the United States and the European Union. Registration batches of this size affect the broader global cost structure for crop protection inputs, since more qualified domestic suppliers generally puts downward pressure on technical material prices over time. For companies that depend on Chinese technical actives, whether as branded formulators in export markets or as generic manufacturers competing on price, tracking ICAMA’s registration batches and the specific companies newly qualified against each active ingredient offers an early signal of where new supply and price competition is likely to emerge, well before it shows up in shipment volumes or customs data.
