21 September 2026, New Delhi: India’s Registration Committee under Ministry of Agriculture has approved indigenous manufacture of Pioxaniliprole, an insecticide active ingredient the Committee recorded as the first ever discovered in India. PI Industries Ltd. received clearance for both the technical material (97.5% w/w minimum) and a 20% w/v suspension concentrate (SC) formulation.
The decisions came at the Committee’s 476th meeting, chaired by Agriculture Commissioner and Registration Committee Chairman Dr. P. K. Singh.
The Committee said the approval follows its earlier decisions on indigenous capability in crop protection chemicals. It also fits the government’s stated aim of promoting domestic research and the development of indigenous technologies for Indian farmers.
Approved crops and pests
The technical registration carries a provisional shelf life of two years and has no crop use specified. The 20% SC is cleared for four crops:
In rice, the target pests are yellow stem borer and leaf folder. In chilli, the approved pests are fall armyworm, fruit borer and tobacco caterpillar. The formulation is also approved against fruit borer in tomato and pod borer in Bengal gram.
