World Food Safety Day / A Week Of Celebrations In Madagascar Includes Standards, Health And Nutrition

17 June 2026, US: Under the leadership of the National Codex Alimentarius Committee, Madagascar celebrated World Food Safety Day 2026. Various activities took place during the week leading up to 7 June, also marking the Committee’s 20th anniversary of its commitment to food safety and Codex standards.

On 4 June, 2026, the opening ceremony was graced by the presence of the Minister of Livestock, who officially opened the celebration, surrounded by numerous dignitaries. On this occasion, the Minister of Trade and Consumer Affairs delivered a memorable address.

During the event, companies shared their experiences on the practical application of Codex standards. Some experts from the Committee also discussed the strategic importance of participating in Codex work. The event also provided an opportunity to award the winner of the oratory competition, organized specifically for young people.

On 5 June, scientific conferences on crucial public health topics were also held, such as aflatoxin management, pesticide residues, and bovine tuberculosis.

On 6 June, combining teamwork and health, members of the National Committee and their partners participated in a cultural and sporting hike, organized with the support of the WHO. The day concluded with a nutrition coaching session and a Zumba class.

On 7 June, the official day of the celebration, the Minister of Trade and Consumer Affairs addressed the nation in a speech broadcast on national television.

It should be noted that the festivities do not end there. Numerous other activities, including awareness campaigns, will continue in several regions of Madagascar throughout this jubilee year.
