World Food Safety Day / Book Launch For Food Safety
11 June 2026, US: On the occasion of the World Food Safety Day, a book titled, “Food Safety is Everyone’s Business – Even Yours and Mine” was unveiled in Mumbai by Padma Vibhushan Dr R. A. Mashelkar, former Director-General of India’s Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. He is a world-renowned scientist and is known for his innovative policies. The book was written by Dr Trupti Bhat, herself a food science expert. She was inspired by her daughter, Ojasvini who was awarded the youngest Food Safety Ambassador, when she was just six years old, by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. The foreword was written by Sanjay Dave, former Chairperson of Codex Alimentarius Commission. Ojasvini, now a teenager, welcomed the gathering.
In his address, Dr Mashelkar said that the book has addressed the issue with live examples of food safety challenges; informs the mind, touches the conscience and changes everyday behaviour. He added that the book turns food safety from a technical subject to a movement in which everyone has a role to play. He also emphasized that the book expands the conversation beyond food safety by connecting it to public health, consumer rights, sustainability, food wate reduction and overall development and promoted that food safety is a fundamental right of every human being and acknowledged the great role of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
