World Food Safety Day / Viva Fair Brings Food Safety And Sustainability To The Community In Lisbon
11 June 2026, US: On 7 June 2026, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Lisbon hosted the “Viva Fair”, bringing together academia, the food sector and the community to celebrate food safety, sustainable nutrition, science and tradition.
The event featured hands-on workshops on the production of sourdough bread, kefir, miso and kombucha, alongside lectures and discussions on innovation and food systems. Participants explored the role of food safety in supporting both public health and sustainable food practices.
The programme also included the award ceremony for the video competition “Communicate Science, Change Behaviours!”, with special recognition given to the best food safety message.
Supported by a wide range of companies and institutions, the Viva Fair highlighted food safety as a shared responsibility among producers, scientists and consumers, encouraging informed and sustainable choices for the benefit of people and the planet.
