World Food Safety Day / Webinar to showcase FAO’s new Risk-based Inspection Resource Kit

04 June 2026, US: It’s five days to go until World Food Safety Day 2026! Have you registered for the webinar on FAO’s new Risk-based Inspection Resource Kit?

To mark World Food Safety Day 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will host a webinar on 16 June 2026 highlighting practical approaches to strengthening risk-based food inspection programmes.

Aligned with this year’s World Food Safety Day theme, “From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere,” the webinar will examine how risk-based inspection systems can help food safety authorities make more effective use of resources, improve public health protection and enhance the performance of national food control systems.

Foodborne diseases remain a major global public health concern, underscoring the need for food control systems that are science-based, responsive to emerging risks, and capable of targeting interventions where they are most needed.

The webinar will introduce FAO’s new Risk-based Inspection Resource Kit, developed to support countries in designing, implementing and maintaining risk-based food inspection programmes. Participants will learn how risk categorization can help Competent Authorities prioritize food business operators according to public health risk, strengthen evidence-based decision-making and improve inspection planning.

Experts from Canada, Chile and Zimbabwe will share experiences in developing and implementing risk-based inspection programmes, including approaches to risk categorization, inspection prioritization, inter-agency collaboration and capacity development. The session will also explore common implementation challenges and lessons learned from different national contexts.

The webinar forms part of FAO’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national food control systems and support countries in advancing more effective, resilient and sustainable food safety programmes.

The event is intended for food safety Competent Authorities, food control agencies, public health officials, inspection services, policymakers, development partners, academia, food business operators and international organizations working in food safety and public health. The webinar will be conducted in English.
